LCCC Holds Pageant Scholarship Fundraising Gala

A big congratulations to the Lao Community Cultural Center which held its fundraiser in San Diego, a Pageant Scholarship Fundraising Gala to help raise fun for future pageant activities and scholarships for Lao high school students on Saturday, September, 17, 2011 at Ly’s Garden Seafood Restaurant.

Hundreds gathered from across the country to recognize and celebrate the journeys of Lao women who've succeeded and gone on to many accomplishments since becoming a Nang Sangkhane.

Among guest speakers on the schedule was Paulina Rassavong, who was an honorary guest and Nang Sangkhane from 1986.

Carol Manisouk the Nang Sangkhane from 2010 and Alice Inthamala, the 2011 Nang Sangkhane also spoke of the impact the title had on their lives and their words of advice to other emerging students in the community. Many other speakers also addressed the audience, and a silent auction was held.

Among the notable groups present was the Center for Lao Studies, whose board and staff had concluded a retreat that weekend. The organizers also thanked the many Lao businesses and non-profit organizations who supported these and other efforts in the community.

The Lao Dance Alliance performed a traditional blessing dance, and the evening featured a fashion show. Live musical entertainment and dance, as well as raffle prize drawings helped to make it an eventful night.

The mission of the Lao Community Cultural Center is to preserve and promote Lao cultural heritage, assists other Laotian Americans of all ethnic groups in San Diego to improve their social and economic conditions and to help them integrate into American society.

The Lao Community Cultural Center (LCCC), is one of the largest Lao organizations in the State of California, founded in April 1992 and will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year during the Year of the Dragon. It should be exciting to see how their new year goes in San Diego.
