Nong Hak: Dearest Sister an official selection of Fantastic Fest

It was recently announced that Lao American horror director Mattie Do's newest film, Dearest Sister is an official selection of Fantastic Fest this year. I'm proud of her and can't wait to see the final cut!

Mattie Do achieved global acclaim for her debut horror film Chanthaly, so expectations are high for this latest tale from her and her team. Nong Hak is "the story of a Lao village girl, whose only chance of escaping indentured poverty is to manipulate her wealthy cousin’s illness into dependence. Oh, and it’s got ghosts, too," as Mattie Do originally pitched it back at the start of production.

Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the U.S., specializing in "horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and just plain fantastic movies from all around the world."

Previously, Fantastic Fest has presented the world premieres of major films such as THERE WILL BE BLOOD, APOCALYPTO, FRANKENWEENIE and ZOMBIELAND. Guests have included talents such as Bill Murray, Dolph Lundgren, Paul Rudd, Bill Pullman, Kevin Smith, Jon Favreau, George Romero, Darren Aronofsky, Mike Judge, Roger Corman, and Tim Burton. Fantastic Fest is held each year at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, Texas.
